Tour Plan
Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by a representative from Balletto African Adventures and transferred to your hotel for a comfortable overnight stay. Your room will be equipped with all amenities necessary for rest and preparation, including hot water, Wi-Fi, attentive staff, and a swimming pool. In the evening, you will attend a detailed briefing with your mountain manager to review your gear and final climb preparations. Private tour packages include shared group transfers, and synchronizing arrival times is recommended to avoid extra charges. Check-in begins at 2:00 PM.
Day 2: Trekking From Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
After breakfast, your guide and mountain crew will meet you at the hotel for introductions and a short briefing before driving to Marangu Gate, the eastern entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park. Following registration and permit formalities, you will begin your ascent through a dense rainforest known for its vibrant vegetation and possible tropical showers. The gradual trek leads to Mandara Hut, where your support crew will prepare lunch and ensure your comfort. This will be your first night at altitude, and you may experience mild acclimatization symptoms as your body adjusts. Staying hydrated and communicating openly with your guide will support a smooth transition to higher elevations.
Day 3: Trekking From Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
After an early breakfast, you will leave Mandara Hut and continue climbing toward Horombo Hut. As you ascend, the rainforest will give way to moorland, and the views will increasingly open up, eventually revealing the dramatic silhouettes of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. In the afternoon, you will complete a short acclimatization hike toward Kibo Hut before returning to Horombo for dinner. This additional altitude exposure helps your body adapt and significantly increases the chances of a successful summit.
Day 4: Trekking From Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Today’s trek leads steadily upward toward the alpine desert zone as you approach Kibo Hut, set at the base of the Kibo volcanic cone. Although the trail is not technically challenging, maintaining a slow, steady pace is essential to conserve energy for the demanding summit attempt ahead. Upon arrival, you will have lunch and are encouraged to rest, hydrate, and prepare mentally for the nighttime ascent to Uhuru Peak.
Day 5: Summit to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Horombo Hut
Your summit attempt begins shortly after midnight as you leave Kibo Hut and ascend toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The challenge of altitude will require deliberate pacing and strong determination, but your dedicated guide will monitor your progress and encourage you throughout the climb. As dawn approaches, you will stand at 5,895 meters on the summit of Kilimanjaro, celebrating your achievement above the clouds. After optional time near the glaciers, you will descend to Kibo Hut for a brief rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut for a well-earned night of recovery.
Day 6: Descent From Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
After breakfast, you will begin your final descent through the moorland and rainforest zones toward Marangu Gate. Upon reaching the park exit, you will receive your summit certificates and have the opportunity to reflect on your journey in the climbers’ guestbook. The team from Balletto African Adventures will then transfer you back to the hotel for a relaxing evening.
Day 7: Departure
Following breakfast, you may enjoy a restful morning at the hotel before your transfer to the airport. Hotel check-out is at 11:00 AM, with optional late check-out available for travelers departing on evening flights.
