Tour Plan
Day 1: Flight to Iringa & Cultural Exploration
Your adventure begins with a domestic flight from Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam to Iringa. Upon arrival, your driver-guide will welcome you and transfer you to the city for a warm lunch. The afternoon introduces you to Iringa’s history and culture, beginning with a city tour that highlights the town’s deep Hehe heritage. The name “Iringa” comes from the word lilinga, meaning “fort,” a reference to its role during German colonial rule and its stronghold under Chief Mkwawa. You will visit significant sites such as the Stone Age archaeological area and the historic Italian mission cathedral. The day ends with a sweeping sunset over Iringa’s rolling hills before settling in for dinner and a restful night.
Day 2: Road Transfer to Ruaha National Park
After breakfast, you begin your drive toward Ruaha National Park, passing through Nyamahana and Tungamalenga village along the way. The route offers scenic views and glimpses of rural Tanzanian life before you arrive at your lodge for lunch and check-in. In the afternoon, you venture into the park for your first game drive. Ruaha’s vast wilderness is home to elephants, giraffes, kudu, lions, leopards, jackals, hyenas, and the rare African wild dog. As evening settles over the park, you return to your lodge to enjoy dinner and a peaceful night surrounded by nature.
Day 3: Full-Day Game Drive in Ruaha National Park
After breakfast, you depart for a full-day game drive deep into Ruaha’s rugged landscape. This expansive, largely untouched ecosystem offers exceptional opportunities to observe wildlife in a completely natural environment. Ruaha is home to the greater kudu, a species not found anywhere else in Tanzania, along with a wide range of predators and plains game. Whether enjoying a picnic lunch in the bush or returning for a hot meal, the day unfolds at a relaxed safari pace, with endless chances to admire the park’s wildlife and dramatic scenery. The evening concludes with dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 4: Another Full Day in Ruaha’s Wilderness
After breakfast, you head out once again for a full day of exploration inside Ruaha National Park. Nearly as vast as the Serengeti and rich in untouched beauty, Ruaha is famed for its incredible birdlife, boasting more than 350 recorded species. Wildlife gathers along the Great Ruaha River, where lions, leopards, jackals, hyenas, and wild dogs often patrol the riverbanks in search of prey. You spend the day soaking in the rhythm of the wild before returning to your lodge for dinner and a final night in Ruaha’s tranquil surroundings.
Day 5: Flight from Iringa to Zanzibar
After an early breakfast, you depart for the Iringa airstrip for your scheduled flight to Zanzibar, either via Dar es Salaam or directly to the island depending on your booking. Upon arrival in Zanzibar, you will be met and transferred to your beach hotel, where we can assist with arranging accommodations to suit your preferences. This marks the end of your safari journey and the beginning of your island relaxation.
