Tour Plan
Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by a representative from Balletto African Adventures and transferred to your hotel for a comfortable stay equipped with cozy rooms, hot showers, attentive staff, internet access, and a swimming pool. In the evening, you will attend a detailed briefing with the mountain manager to finalize preparations for your climb. Shared airport transfers apply to private tours, and additional transfers attract extra charges, so coordinating arrival times is recommended. Hotel check-in begins at 2:00 PM.
Day 2: Trekking from Nalemuru Gate to Simba Camp
After breakfast, your guide and mountain support team will meet you for a short briefing before driving to the northern entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park at Nalemuru Gate. Once permits and registration are complete, you will begin your trek through the coniferous forest along the northern slopes, maintaining a comfortable pace as you gradually gain altitude. Upon reaching Simba Camp, you will find your tents prepared and dinner underway, allowing you to settle in and adjust to your first night at elevation. It is normal to feel early signs of acclimatization such as mild headaches or nausea, and staying well-hydrated and communicating with your guide is essential for a smooth transition to higher altitudes.
Day 3: Trekking from Simba Camp to Kikilewa Camp
This morning begins with an early breakfast before setting out toward Kikilewa Camp, located at a significantly higher elevation. The trail becomes more demanding as you move above the forested slopes and into open highland terrain. Clear weather on this day often rewards trekkers with striking views of Kibo’s massive volcanic cone. Upon reaching the camp, you will have time to rest and allow your body to adjust to the increasing altitude before settling in for the evening.
Day 4: Trekking from Kikilewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp
After breakfast, you will begin the ascent toward Mawenzi Tarn Camp, dramatically situated at the base of the rugged Mawenzi Volcano. The trek offers beautiful panoramas and a noticeable shift into colder, more alpine conditions. Upon reaching camp, you will have lunch and a period of rest before embarking on an acclimatization hike that ascends toward Mawenzi for additional altitude exposure. This short hike plays a key role in increasing summit success, and after returning to camp, you will enjoy dinner and prepare for the night.
Day 5: Trekking from Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Hut Camp
Today’s trek leads across a wide saddle of barren, rocky terrain that stretches between Mawenzi and Kibo. The gradual incline and increasing altitude require a slow and steady pace to conserve energy for the summit attempt ahead. Upon arrival at Kibo Hut Camp, you will rest, hydrate, and mentally prepare for the night-time ascent to Uhuru Peak. A quiet afternoon and early sleep are essential as you ready yourself for the demanding climb.
Day 6: Trekking to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Horombo Camp
Shortly after midnight, you will begin your summit push from Kibo Hut, ascending steadily toward Gillman’s Point before continuing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Although technically straightforward, the altitude makes this stage physically intense, and each pair of climbers is closely monitored by a personal guide to ensure safety and steady progress. Reaching the summit at sunrise is an unforgettable moment, with panoramic views of the crater, glaciers, and distant plains. After brief time at the top, you will descend to Kibo Hut for a rest before continuing down to Horombo Camp, where you will enjoy a well-earned night of recovery.
Day 7: Descent from Horombo Camp to Marangu Gate
After breakfast, you will begin your final descent through the moorland and forest zones toward Marangu Gate. Upon reaching the park exit, you will celebrate with the mountain crew, sign the climbers’ guestbook, and receive your official summit certificates. A vehicle from Balletto African Adventures will then return you to the hotel for a warm shower and relaxed evening.
Day 8: Departure from Tanzania
After a restful night, you may relax at the hotel before your airport transfer. Check-out is at 11:00 AM, with the option to extend your stay for an additional fee if your flight departs later in the day.
